Juneteenth Block party & Fair
Juneteenth marks the day when federal troops arrived in
Galveston, Texas in 1865 to take control of the state and ensured all enslaved people were freed, which occurred 2.5 years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation. Honoring Juneteenth is more than just recognizing the emancipation of slaves in the U.S. It is a day to continue the fight for the end of racism in the U.S. that prevents equity, creates
disproportionate suffering, and harms Black adults and children across the globe.
GOOD TIMES
This event was birthed from a conversation in
May 2020 during the period of social unrest in
our country. The purpose is to provide the Black
community an opportunity to come together
and celebrate freedom, love and respect for our
heritage with friends, family and the community
as a sign of unity. Last year's event was a success in so many ways. There
were over 500 people attended in compliance with the
San Antonio Social Distancing Mandate. We will follow
the mandate this year as well. Our goal is to highlight
opportunities and resources that are relevant to the
Black community in the areas of education, business,
and health with the help of our community partners. A
portion of the funds raised will go to support the
educational and community efforts of the Dream Big
Scholarship Fund, Inc.
